I never understood this gun. Is it a gun that shoots a knife, or is it a gun that has a really big knife attached to it, or am I completely off track?

I think of it as a gun with the benefit of a blade. Chop,chop..Bang! But seriously, it is a useless weapon in real life. Only a few actual gunblades were ever produced, and they sported very short blades, and used rather ineffectual revolvers. They could not be sheathed easily, so storage is a problem, and you could lose a finger just in the reloading process. Not good.

These tend to show up in REALLY bad zombie films or Quentin Tarrantino Movies. (along with a gun worn as a codpiece for some reason)

A gun with a blade on it is odd (yet cool), but I know of a REAL gun that consisted of gun, dagger and brass knuckles: The Apache Revolver.
This weapon seems to have a definate psychological kick to it though.. it certainly looks terrifying! Perfect for over-the-top evil overlords to equip their henchmen with: somthing that looks fierce but dosen't work well (like stormtrooper helmets for example...).
Stormtrooper 1: I don't know, I just feel like we all have really great aim until the second we put on these helmets... Stormtrooper 2: Maybe it's the guns? Stormtrooper 1: Then how do the Rebels kick our butts every time they steal them?!

This is pretty good. It reminds me of the revolvers from Borderlands with the blades on them.
Were it so easy

In my personal opion, that's a stupid idea. Why does it have a chamber, if it doesn't shoot anything? If your're going to shank someone, why not use a normal knife?

Nice i was thinking like if a guy with a pistol runs out of ammo there is his blade on his gun. Love this.

I would totally buy these for our tabletop game. We have gunblades built into the game system and right now have to sort of fudge them with guns, knives and U-clips.
