I wonder if I could do entirely without the trigger guard, and just leave the exposed, triangular trigger?

From the pictures of the 1930s rayguns, none of them had trigger guards. I'm with Will. It would look improved without a trigger guard.

Yeah, after seeing the real ones I agree to take the trigger gaurd off and just leave the trigger.

If Will DOES make glow in the dark, this would fit very well.

I think it would look better with the trigger guard,
I feel a poll coming on....

Nope, Will has come to a definitive decision on the issue. More accurately put: Ian weighted in on the issue, and that was good enough for Will! ;)

This is my favorite of all brickarms ever! I might even go so far to say that it is my favorite custom lego accesory ever!

As for the Trigger Guard issue, I'm a fan of the trigger guard. Though, I'd be fine seeing it with, or without one. I suppose Ian's made his choice though!

I've aquired a Gitd version, and it looks great.

Whoa. Even better than all the aggressive-looking ones, like the G36 and MGL?

Nice Man, this could substitute for a ray-gun for people doing a German Zombies Vignette. :)
