I think that is the only area I can think of for improvement. That's certainly necessary for a real-life firearm, but for a minifig accessory, it's decidedly less critical. As is, I don't think anyone would question this accessory is darn close to its inspiration, but like any item, a degree of abstraction as well as alteration needs to be done to the design to make it fit into the minifig aesthetic. You'll notice there's almost no space between the wire stock, the grip, the trigger guard, and the magazine. Fitting those details into one small area and making it look good is darn tricky, and despite that small real-world flaw, I think it works just fine for a minifig accessory

Hey, let's look at it this way; Paratroopers are happy! ;) I have a few, and I don't think that matters that much. It's not as noticeable as you'd think it is, I actually like it the way it is. The only thing that gets me for the M1 Carbine, is the fact that I haven't seen one overmolded in gunmetal and brown, or black and brown. Don't you guys think that'd look awesome? Great weapon in design, and not to mention durability. (I stepped on one, and was horrified, until I discovered it was fine.) -Jeff http://100thbg.org/: My grandpa fought in World War II. Wow! Impressive...
But I would have prefered the one with a m1 or a lee enfield stock.

I like the M1A1 for it's pistol grip, but I think Will should also make the standard M1 Carbine as well as the M1A1.

Anyway, I love this proto', but why did you decide to make an M1A1 instead of an M1? Is it that the M1 Carbine would be too similar to the M1 Garand, and the M1A1 has obvious differences?

M1A1 Carbine = M1 Carbine with folding wire stock, and pistol grip. It is also known as the paratrooper version of the M1 carbine. However, since I already have an M1A1 in the catalog (the Thompson M1A1), I opted to rename it simply M1 Carbine.

Sorry Will, but technically the M1 carbine with the folding wire stock and pistol grip is the M1A1. I understand though how it could be jumbled around with the M1A1 Thompson. [ADMIN - Seriously, do you think I would take the time to model it in CAD, cut it in a mold, and inject it, all without knowing what it is? --Will]

HKFAN wrote:Sorry Will, but technically the M1 carbine with the folding wire stock and pistol grip is the M1A1. That's what he just said in the above post! What he meant was that he didn't want two items with "M1A1" in their names, and since the M1A1 Thompson was already part of the line-up, it made sense to just call this the "M1 Carbine" although it's specifically based on the M1A1 variant of the M1. Urban Hazard wrote:why did you decide to make an M1A1 instead of an M1? Is it that the M1 Carbine would be too similar to the M1 Garand, and the M1A1 has obvious differences? Will already tackled the name aspect of it, but assuming you also mean, "Why did Will design this as a wire-stock and pistol-grip item rather than something with a rifle stock?" you are correct in that Will wanted to do something different with this item. He'd be meaning to do another wire-stocked item for awhile now, and with the Zombie Apocafest of BrickCon 2009 and the fame of the M1 as a premier anti-zombie weapon, it made sense to pursue that item, but in the M1A1 variant.

The M1 carbine has to be one of my favorites from the garage tales.. The reason: I was toying around with the idea of making a Lego version of a secret Norwegian cold war weapons dump - weapon dumps that were a part of the Norwegian stay behind networks (top secret networks that would wake up if we were invaded by the Soviets, known in the rest of Europe as Operation Gladio). And the instant I saw this thread, I knew that the carbine would fit perfecty, along with Garands, MP40s, MG42s (if made, of course), bazookas, M1911s etc. Hell, I even fired a M1 carbine! Love the weapon! And it looks awesome in brown! :)
